How To Clean Mimerals Off A Rough Ruby

How to make clean mineral buildup on GPUs

TL;DR: I live nigh the ocean and have a window fan blowing onto my open-air mining rig. It appears that mineral deposits have been accumulating on the fins of the heatsinks, and I'm wondering how I should make clean this off. I was thinking xc% isopropyl alcohol and scrubbing with a soft toothbrush, but suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Imgur Imgur Imgur Imgur

That appears to be aluminum corrosion.

Anything I tin do to treat information technology or forestall farther corrosion?

It could merely as easily exist dust. The pictures are rather potatoe-y.

Edit: to be clear I am proverb I don't know what it is. Only that I recollect information technology could withal be dust and that a better image is still needed. Just apparently that rubed a few people the wrong way?

Once you revive your rut sinks, you should turn that window fan around and frazzle the heat out instead. No more than salty air blowing on them constantly and you are removing the backlog heat. Win win.

Agreed. I take e'er had better results drawing hot air away from the source (pulling) instead of trying to diffuse the hot air by pushing cooler air into the heat source.

It would exist advisable to not let humid salt air blow on to your components. Your motherboard and other boards are probably going to corrode besides. Table salt is not kind to metals.

Baking soda and h2o. Make a paste with information technology. Takes off oxidation real well. Dont apply salty air. Try and find a different fashion to vent them

I call up I would not try to clean it. The oxide layer prevents further oxidation and information technology is a good oestrus conductor. The heat transfer operation should not be significantly changed. Cosmetically though, it looks horrible.

that looks like corrosion from humid salty air..live at the beach?

You could pulling the GPU autonomously and washing the non electrical parts in distilled water. That might soften some of the build upwards. Perhaps add a drop of lime scale remover to further soften the water.

Evapo-rust will melt it off and but leave the pits behind. You would have to completely disassemble. 14 screws, thermal paste and thermal tape .

Edit. Not literally melt. Chemically disolve rust away is more authentic.

definitely corrosion. make an enclosure with proper filters to foreclose all that salt air

yous could add those four images into an anthology simply that aside.

I'd encounter if CLR works on that heatsink metal (I presume aluminum).

It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I will extend those and so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

Hither is link number i - Previous text "CLR"

Compressed air from an air compressor won't get calcium build up off.

Common salt corrodes metal!
